5th Feb – This week we are changing our focus. For the next 4 weeks we consider how we can better recognise God in our lives. To start off our work we will listen to Mark 9: 2 – 10 – The Transfiguration. The reading can be a bit tricky for little ones but its message is very clear. “This is my son, the beloved; listen to Him.” That message couldn’t be clearer. We will try to find some quietness inside ourselves to listen to what God is telling us. We will recognise that God loves each one of us …
We would like to congratulate George Pugh on being invited to exhibit a selection of his work in the Wensley Gallery, 6-8 Market Place, Ramsbottom, BL0 9HT from January 8th until February 8th.
George has made various contributions to the liturgy and decoration around St. Joseph’s including the magnificent “Advent and Christmas Windows” which you see in the sanctuary, and the more abstract “Calvary Resurrection” diptych in the Reception area of the Presbytery. We wish George every success and lots of visits and interest.
The 2012 Church Calendar has been added to the site.

I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year. May God bless you and walk ever more closely with you and those you love to protect and guide you during 2012.
Also, a very sincere thanks to all of you who make the parishes of St. Joseph’s and Sacred Heart and St. Edward’s a great place to be and who make the Catholic Community of Darwen and District a lively presence of Jesus Christ in his world.
Fr. Peter
There is a selection of photos online from the Masses at St. Josephs’s – 11PM, 24th December and Sacred Heart – 11am, 25th December.
Many thanks to all our members for their continued support throughout 2011. The draw is an important
source of income for the parish. Congratulations to all our winners who have shared in over £4,500 of
prizes during 2011. Remember, you have to be in it to win it.
Please note that all 200 numbers are now allocated; however, we are keeping a waiting list of names for
when numbers become available.
Thank you once again and we wish you good luck for the coming year. Alec and Margaret
A huge thank you to everyone who was able to attend any of our great celebrations. It was marvellous to see such a great response. All our hard work is finished for the time being. Please keep us all in your prayers over the Christmas season as we will keep you in ours. Wishing you all a very happy and holy Christmas with love and best wishes from the pupils and staff at St. Joseph’s.
St. Joseph’s Rainbows and Brownies wish everyone a very happy and peaceful Christmas. We’ll see you again in 2012.

The Christmas music and carols with BwD Junior Band went down a treat with everyone who attended. This year we saw a massive turnout and St Joseph’s Hall had a full house.
A big thank you to everyone involved with the organisation and planning as well as sorting out gifts for the raffle.
Was the lady holding up the cards for the 12 days of Christmas part of the act? If she wasn’t , she was very funny.
Our infant production, ‘We Three Kings’ was a great success this year, playing to three packed houses. The children sang and spoke beautifully throughout, telling the story of the Nativity from the point of view of the three kings, Melchior, Balthazar, and Caspar.
Here at St Edward’s RCP, we have been busy preparing for Christmas. From our Christmas production to visiting pantomime, our annual talent show and joint service with St Joseph’s, it has been all go! For full details of all the happenings here, please visit our website: www.stedwardsrcdarwen.co.uk anytime!

The Scout Group raised enough money from its table top sale to buy a cow for a third world family from Cafod’s World Gifts catalogue. We can make a difference. We have made a difference to one family this Christmas.
Last Saturday night at the Church Parade, the Scout Group were pleased to be able to make a donation to the parish of £645 as a thank you for its sponsorship by the parish and the use of its facilities.
